We just graduated and are so excited for what the future holds. After almost a year of marriage and our final year in school, we are headed to serve the Lord in Costa Rica! We will be living and working just outside of San José for the next two and a half years. We hope that you will consider partnering with us to care for the children of Costa Rica.
Our sending organization, Latin American Mission (LAM), has partnerships with many ministries throughout Latin America. They seek to empower national Christian leaders to bring about healing and growth through Jesus Christ. As LAM missionaries, we will be joining a large network of people furthering the Kingdom in Central and South America and Spain.
Beginning in July, we will be part-time teachers at Colegio Cristiano Bilingüe La Palabra de Vida (The Word of Life Christian Bilingual School). The school is a K-11 school that seeks to provide a quality Christian education to children in the San José area. Although the school is explicitly Christian, it attracts many non-believers due to the quality of the education and allows for a unique ministry opportunity. Many of the religious students are only nominally Christian and we hope to help their faith come alive. The school also provides scholarships to students from low-income families in order to allow them opportunities to get a good education. James will be serving as a high school Chemistry teacher. Savanna will work in a kindergarten classroom as a co-teacher through November and will then begin teaching 5th and 6th grade English in February. Both of us hope to also be involved in small groups and athletic teams with the children, influencing their lives both in and out of the classroom.
When we are not teaching, we are excited to be volunteering with children in crisis. We are still in the process of determining what organization we will be working with, but plan to volunteer on weekends and school breaks. We are both very passionate about this ministry and cannot wait to share with you where God leads us to serve in this way!
Would you consider being a partner in God’s work in Costa Rica? Your prayers and financial support are the backbone, enabling us to serve with these ministries. We will not be receiving a salary from Palabra de Vida. By not receiving a salary, we provide the school with more opportunities to offer scholarships and hire national teachers. We need to raise approximately $2,000 a month as well as $2,100 in one-time costs. Any contribution you make to LAM enables us to serve the children around San José and is a blessing. We know that some of you are not in a place to partner with us financially; however, we ask you to consider committing to pray for us and the people we will be serving.
If you are interested in talking further with us, we will be in Nashville May 14-18 and June 3-12 and in Houston May 27-31. You can contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com to schedule a time to meet with us.
Please feel free to share our story with anyone who may be interested!
